Halloween Teaching Resources for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade - Roundup!

Hey everyone!

We are only days away from..Halloween! I like dressing up, but I haven't decided what I should be yet.. (I think I am enjoying this more than the kids..lol !) Two years ago, I dressed as a witch at school. I thought my students would be scared of me but..nope! They were so excited about the hat, makeup and everything.
Teaching during this time of year is fun! All the scary/spooky/gooey/slimy stuff around, can inspire a number of engaging activities in the classroom or at home. Last year, I prepared some early literacy, math, and social studies - history activities for young learners. Here is a roundup of them :

The Legend of Jack O' Lantern - Social Studies - History

I have also collected many great ideas from fellow educators on my "Halloween Class Ideas and Crafts" Pinterest board. You can check them out by clicking below.

Take your pick!

Hope you have fun in your classroom or at home with these activities!

Happy Halloween!

The Gingerbread Man Story - Feelings Map FREE!

Hello everyone!

With the popular Gingerbread Man story and the common core in mind, I created a little freebie for you! It is appropriate for kindergarten and first grade, but second and third graders could benefit and have a lot of fun with this as well! Pre-k students too, with some guidance.

This freebie features a short version of the classic Gingerbread Man story with a feelings map, for children in early grades.

Two versions of the map are included : One to help children think about what their own feelings are, as they read through the story, and one for them to indicate the Gingerbread Man's feelings, over the course of the story.

I have also added it to my "Freebies" page where you can find more free resources!

St. Patrick's Day Math Freebie - Kindergarten and 1st Grade!

Hey everyone!

St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner so, I made this fun math freebie for the occasion!

It is aligned to the following kindergarten common core standard:

"CCSS.Math.Content.K.NBT.A.1 Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (such as 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones."

The first Christmas - Nativity story for children in Pre-K and Kindergarten!

Hey everyone!

My favorite time of the year is almost here...Christmas! 😄

One of the things I love doing around this magical time is reading the Nativity story to my class. I was looking to buy a new picture book of the first Christmas story but could not really find exactly what I was looking for. I wanted kiddo-friendly concise text and age-appropriate illustrations to keep my little learners interested till the end of the story. Since I love picture books and have an excellent clip art artist in mind, I created a simple and comprehensive version of the first Christmas story for children in pre-k and kindergarten. I think the results were great since my class was captivated by the story and loved the illustrations!

This can be used in the reading/literacy center, for group reading, or as a read aloud. You can print it or use with your laptop, projector, or Ipad.

I have also enriched this little booklet with activities, worksheets, and crafts to assist our young students in learning and remembering key facts about the first Christmas.

The Gingerbread Man Story - For Pre-K and Kindergarten! A picture book, activities, worksheets, and crafts.

Hey everyone!

I have just finished updating the Gingerbread Man story packet, by adding new fun activities for the kiddos! You have been leaving some amazing comments and feedback for this, thank you!

This traditional story has been told in many different ways. I rewrote this particular version to make it more age appropriate (4-6yrs) and easier to use in class.

The story is in color while the worksheets and crafts' templates are in black&white (ink friendly).

Story Summary:
The little old woman decides to make a gingerbread man for lunch. The gingerbread man escapes when the oven opens. While running, he meets a cow, a horse and a pig who want to eat him as well. He runs and meets a fox who tricks him and eventually eats him.

As odd as the story of the gingerbread man is, it has many important hidden meanings that can be discussed with the children. I have researched the meaning a lot and found many different versions as well as many different versions of the story.

Some interesting links to check out about the meaning:

This packet now includes:
- The Gingerbread Man Story - reader/read aloud for early grades
- Student's individual story book (color, cut&bind the pages!)
- 2 unique craftivities : Story wheel craft - retelling the Gingerbread Man story and a handprint craft/ornament "I got you Gingerbread Man!"
- Story response sheets
- ELA - common core worksheets
- Math worksheets
- Cut&Paste activities
- Tracing&printing words from the story
- Writing papers for the children to use in projects at school or at home (Gingerbread Man themed)

Thanksgiving Day Social Studies - History Pre-K and Kindergarten (Enriched with more art, math, and literacy!)

Hey everyone!

It's almost Thanksgiving!

The first Thanksgiving story is told in every classroom and every home! This year, I rewrote it in a simple and comprehensive way, for children in pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade.

The book will help you to easily explain the history of the holiday to your kiddos. The cute age appropriate illustrations keep them interested till the end of the story. This packet also contains printables, worksheets, and crafts to help children learn and remember key facts about the first Thanksgiving.

You can use this in the reading/literacy center, as an emergent reader, for group reading, or as a read aloud. It is also appropriate for a great (hi)story sequence activity.

You can print it or use with your laptop, projector, or Ipad in class.
